1920 β 1987
Father of independence and first prime minister
Peerless is level 1 of 4 in the Barbados Hall of Fame: changed the field itself. Tell the country's story without them and the story breaks. See how the levels work.
Why they are here
A wartime RAF navigator and lawyer who founded the Democratic Labour Party and led Barbados to independence on 30 November 1966.
Barrow's governments introduced free secondary and university education, national insurance and a national health service. He is remembered for his insistence that Barbados be 'friends of all, satellites of none', and is one of the country's National Heroes.
